Adsense is Done

adsensecrap

Go ahead and click that Adsense Unit above so I can make some money! Well, if you actually attempt to click it you would have been one of the only people ever on this blog!

I played around with placement (on the sidebar, on top of the article, on the bottom of the article, ect) but I just am not getting any clicks. I guess what a lot of other bloggers say is true - Adsense doesn’t work that great on the making money blogs.

Although, I don’t quite consider myself a making money blog just yet because I haven’t really made a whole lot. I am doing this in hopes one day I can make a living, but I am not holding my breath. I am mostly in this for the fun aspect blogging brings and maybe I will get lucky.

The fact that Adsense is performing so poorly on The Rookie Blogger is probably due to ad blindness and not enough traffic. I get a few clicks with Adsense, but not enough right now to clutter up my page with it. So, it will probably be a couple more month (when I hit the magic 3 month mark) before I start bringing in a decent amount of earnings. Many of the ways to make money with a blog require it to be 3 months old before they consider accepting you to their programs.

    Personally, I think Adsense ads are just ‘blah’ — for people who are web savvy they’re almost invisible - only on sites that attract a less experienced user, do I think they even begin to be effective these days … in fact, it’s reeeeally reeeeally hard to get me to click on any Ad(I’ve recognized this as selfish and I’m working on it), so a vanilla lookin Adsense ad isn’t going to get a second look.

    That said, my blog is new and though not a make money online blog, I’m going to monetize the blog, slowly… I can’t decide whether I want to skip Adsense all together, or try it for a minute and see if I get any benefit from it — like more traffic… what are your experiences on traffic from Adsense?

    @Mel
    I would probably give it a good test run and see if it works for you because some niches do really well from Adsense. I don’t ever get traffic from Adsense because I don’t use it for advertising at all just to make money on this blog.

    it’s best to go for direct affiliate marketing. even sidebar ads don’t work that well.

    I have found that 99% of sites that do have Adsense look cheapened, esp when there’s a big block ad right between the post title and it’s content - doesn’t the poster want it to be read? Then the other “trick” of making it look like navigation links under the header gfx! Just to underhand for my liking.

    I always look at a couple of ads on peoples sites. I see it as a simple way of appreciating writers efforts. Looking at different ad styles gives me ideas for my own ads too.
