Making Money with a Blog about Making Money - Contest Update

I know what most of you are thinking… another blog about making money, oh no! Some random guy who has no idea what he is doing is going to try to tell me how to make money online. I am not in the stage of blogging where advance bloggers are going to learn much from me. One of my goal with this blog is to document my journey into monetizing my blog. What I expect my readers to get out of this blog is twofold:

  • If you are interested in following my progress I encourage you to come back often to see how I am doing
  • If you are a rookie blogger like myself, please use my blog as a tool to learn from my success and mistakes

After doing some research on making money with a blog it seems there are many bloggers who think you should stop writing about making money blogging if you actually want to make money. I disagree with this. For one thing, the monetizing techniques of money making blogs are usually helping others to do the same thing. You make money by helping others make money. Secondly, I am not just writing about making money blogging. My goal is to show other newbie bloggers my journey on what and what not to do with your blog. I don’t intend to just throw up ads and expect great wealth in my near future. This goes back to my two goals above. Please do not tell people to stop blogging about making money because we are not telling you to stop blogging about your topics.

I have pretty much tweaked my theme to my liking at this point. It will be a constant struggle to make this site look the way I want it to. I have no experience in blog design and I am learning as I go. I am very pleased to this point with my accomplishment and one day hope to have one of those fancy expensive custom themes. For now, though, I will stick with the design I have. Here is what the Coppyblogger theme looked like before I tweaked it. As you can see I added a custom header and moved the navigation menu to the top right.

What about the previous contest mentioned?

In my previous post I mentioned I will be having some type of contest in the near future to kick start my blog and hope to get some readers. I have narrowed it down to a couple ideas. I will either be giving away a cash prize via Paypal, or offer some free promotional product for you blog. Before I offer up this contest I think I need to concentrate on building a small reader base. It won’t do any good to have a contest with three readers. Once I do a little self-promotion I will announce the particulars of the contest.

I want to thank Ryan Shamus for being the first to comment on my blog. Ryan seems like a great guy who is willing to answer questions I have and help out a fellow blogger. Please check out his site to learn about internet entrepreneurship. He has a great site design and writing style, really down-to-earth. Thanks again Ryan.

    Hey no problem, bro!

The last guy that was new on the scene who started asking me questions not only has an awesomely popular blog, but is now writing for Yaro Starak! (yes, that was a self pat on the back)

I know what you mean though, there are a lot of people that think the “make money online” niche is over-crowded, but in my eyes, I think it provides more to read about something I’m interested in, and also provides great networking opportunities along the way.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with documenting ones journey, it usually makes for a great read. :)

How can I disagree with that? I think that people are jumping ship way too soon. The make money online niche is just getting started. Check this post out at another site I write for to see what I’m talking about. http://dotcompreneur.com/the-truth-about-money-blogging

By the way… Shamus is a great guy. He helped me out a ton in the early going, and he’s still willing to lend a hand whenever I need it now. If you didn’t figure it out… I’m the guy he’s talking about!

I’ve not yet entered the realm of money and blogs. I just read and do one for personal reasons.

I prefer to read more personal stories.

I prefer entries like this one. uncategorized ones
