Cash Quests finally decided to tell their readers their post on getting ranked on Google was not only linkbait, but a lot more. The exact term they use in the article is trafficbait - doing something so original you get a huge rush of traffic. Cash Quests posted a great article about how you need to be original on the internet these days to get reader’s attention. Well, I completely agree with them on that. This is why I did a little linkbait experiment of my own. When I saw the original post over at Blogging Zoom and saw it was “zoomed” to near the top of the first page I knew I could steal a little bit of Cash Quests thunder.
What I Decided to Do
I am always looking for ways to get some traffic here at The Rookie Blogger and I saw this as a great opportunity. Cash Quests just photoshopped a Google search page claiming they found a way to get to the top of Google. I realized how easy this was to do and figured I could do the same thing and prove how it was done.
What Did this Do for The Rookie Blogger?
Well, I decided to play along with Cash Quests article and show how disgusted I was and how they are just full of crap. I obtained the number 1 spot on Blogging Zoom for a couple hours with yesterday’s article. Most people reading Cash Quests original article thought they simply used a certain search string to get the number 1 spot on Google for “make money online”. Well, right away I noticed it was just photoshopped. So, I made up a few of my own fake Google searches in The Gimp to show how Cash Quests did this. I was never upset with Cash Quests, I knew all along what they were up to. I even removed them from my BlogRoll to show my “disgust”.
The people who actually believed this, or didn’t have a clue how Cash Quests achieved this search result status would want to check out my article. Now, I didn’t get many comments on the article, but I did get about 2 x’s the amount of traffic I usually have in a day - nothing like Cash Quests rush, but I did alright. When you are trying to make a name for yourself you do have to be creative and sneaky. So, I deemed my little stunt here the “Trafficbait-and-Switch”. I attempted to steal a little thunder from Cash Quests (they can spare me a little bit) and was rather successful in my blog’s terms.
Thanks for the fun times Cash Quests and sorry if I mislead you!
